THE Southern Downs will be represented by five swimmers in the Queensland Primary School Swimming Championships at Chandler from March 25-27.

St Joseph's Stanthorpe student Ben Armbruster is in five events at the state championships after recording two seconds and three thirds at the regional trials last week at Gatton.

Warwick West State School 11-year-old Brendan Hoffman will represent Darling Downs in three 50m events - butterfly, freestyle and backstroke. He won both the butterfly and freestyle at the regionals.

Ella Hudson, of St Mary's Warwick, swam the required times to make the Darling Downs team in the 11 years 50m freestyle and breaststroke. She was second in breaststroke and fourth in freestyle.

There was more breaststroke success for the Southern Downs when Kelsey Hoger, of Warwick West, was third in 12 years 50m breaststroke and fourth at 100m to make the regional team.

Warwick Christian College student Seamus Ryan won the 11 years 100m breaststroke at Gatton and will swim in the same event at Chandler in the state championships.

St Mary's Goondiwindi students Jack Prosser, Mitchell Dight, Lachlan Burdett and Grace Griffiths made the regional team along with Goondiwindi State School pair Elizabeth Brown and Kyle Lowe.

St Patrick's Allora student Lachlan Henry was one of the 18 students from the Southern Downs who competed in the carnival at Gatton.

He was one of a number of swimmers who swam personal best times but didn't go under the required qualifying times to compete at the state championships.

Lachlan won his 12 years 50m butterfly heat in his best performance of the carnival.
