I'm with the band: Husky steals spotlight on road

FOUR-YEAR-OLD husky Xero knows what life on tour is like.

The husky is well-known on the Gladstone and Brisbane heavy metal music scene as an ambassador for bands Exile and Rivals.

Xero's owner, guitarist and bass player and former Tannum Sands man Daniel Lohrey, takes his dog to all his gigs.

"One day I was getting ready for a show at the tennis club (in Gladstone) and he was looking at me real sad and sooking, so I decided to take him with me.

"He's come to every gig ever since," he said.

Mr Lohrey moved to Brisbane to further his music career, and since then joined a second band, Rivals.

He said Gladstone residents could catch Xero and Exile back at his home turf later in the year.

Mr Lohrey also manages a touring business, Wolf Pack.

"We give bands everything that they need to travel and perform gigs, and the dog comes along as well.

"He gets super-excited, as soon as he sees me get my gear his tail will be wagging and he'll go straight to the front door.

"He definitely knows what's going on."

And he says he's not bothered that friendly Xero sometimes steals the spotlight.

"Sometimes my friends will ask if they can look after him while we play," he laughed.
