Rising workloads could push teachers out
MORE than 2000 teachers have said rising workloads were the key reason they would leave the profession, in a survey released today.
The Australian Education Union-funded survey also found 42% of teachers were working more than 50 hours a week, while 23% worked more than 55 hours a week.
While most teachers were happy with their jobs, when asked what would send them packing, more teachers said rising workloads was the key reason.
Some 70% of female teachers and 55% of male teachers said the pressure of rising workloads was the main issues that would lead them to leave teaching.
Of those surveyed, a massive 73% also said their workload had increased in the past year, but the survey did not detail how much the increase was.
