Woman bites police officer while in back of ambulance

A MORANBAH woman being taken to hospital has reportedly bitten a police officer accompanying her in an ambulance.

Mackay police Senior Constable Steve Smith said the 24-year-old woman was being transported from Moranbah to Mackay Base Hospital on Friday.

Police officers were assisting paramedics.

"It will be alleged whilst en route on the Peak Downs Highway the woman became violent towards officers in the ambulance, resulting in handcuffs being applied," Sen Const Smith said.

"As the police officer was holding the handcuffs in place it's further alleged the woman bit the officer on the hand."

Sen Const Smith said when the ambulance arrived at the hospital the woman was issued with a notice to appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court on February 20, charged with assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty.
