Woman, 75, dies after car crash
AN elderly Stanthorpe woman has died following a horror smash on the New England Highway at Braeside on Tuesday afternoon.
As reported in the Daily News yesterday, the woman was among five people injured in the head-on collision.
The 75-year-old woman was taken to Stanthorpe Hospital after the crash and was later airlifted by Emergency Management Queensland when her condition deteriorated.
A Stanthorpe Hospital spokesperson said she was taken to Brisbane about 8pm, but passed away before landing.
A 79-year-old man travelling in the same car was also taken to Stanthorpe Hospital with a suspected broken hip.
A 17-year-old male was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital after he suffered multiple internal injuries, cuts to the head and suspected spinal injuries.
An Emergency Management Queensland Helicopter spokesperson yesterday confirmed the teen was in a stable condition and would be transferred to the trauma ward.
A Glen Aplin man, aged 19, was taken to Stanthorpe Hospital with minor injuries. Investigations into the cause of the accident are continuing.
Police are awaiting the results from a blood test from one of the drivers.
