Season to give life saving knowledge

WITH Christmas fast approaching the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) is urging communities to consider giving the gift of life saving knowledge by purchasing first aid courses for loved ones.

QAS Commissioner Russell Bowles said there were a number of great life saving gift ideas for the festive season, including pre-paid vouchers for first aid courses which include Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.

"First aid courses provide people with the skills and techniques to care for people in medical distress. They include 'hands on' practice of these skills in a controlled class environment with expert coaching from highly experienced QAS trainers," Mr Bowles said.

"It is well known that correctly administering first aid can mean the difference between life and death.

"We regularly hear of cases where family members have applied first aid - especially CPR - which has resulted in saving the life of a loved one."

Mr Bowles said it was important for people to remember life threatening situations can happen at any time and it's important to ensure they know what to do when faced with these events.

"The QAS offers comprehensive first aid training courses throughout Queensland to ensure people are prepared for all types of medical incidents," he said.
