Wildcats roar into grand final

THE Warwick Wildcats secured a grand final spot in the Ag Requirements Regional Basketball League with a 93-90 win against Highfields Young Guns on Saturday night at Downlands.

The Wildcats will now play the Tenterfield Bullets in the grand final on Saturday at 7pm at Downlands.

James Legan opened the game for Warwick with a beautiful three-point basket shot from 50cm behind the line, to show Highfields how the game was going to be played.

The Wildcats ran out to a 10-point lead within the first two minutes, with Legan hot from the outside.

Snowy Quinn was on fire, with just about everything that left his hands making points.

Highfields was obviously threatened by Quinn, literally leaping over him to try to block his shots or get to their own basket.

Nothing seemed to faze him on Saturday, playing his team captain's role both on the court and on the sidelines.

Coach Jeff Clark was impressed by the way Quinn took control of the game and played smart ball.

With only six players available to take the court, the game plan of "run and gun" ball wasn't easy to pull off, but with excellent teamwork it was a Wildcats' win.

Stephen Kluck, at 2.1m tall, wasn't able to fire up for Highfields because of the Warwick running game.

Play was fast and furious for the most part and he was only able to get a few shots off under the basket, although his dunk in the middle of the game impressed the crowd.

Shannon Slater's solid defence under the basket proved a strong deterrent to Highfields' inside game, with most of their points coming from longer range shots.
