Wild storm slams into Darling Downs overnight

HEAVY rain and damaging winds pounded the Darling Downs overnight as a wild thunderstorm swept across the region.

More than 16mm of rain fell in Toowoomba in less than 10 minutes, with heavier falls reported across the southern Darling Downs.

Almost 30mm was recorded at Dalby in less than 90 minutes.

Trees were brought down and homes damaged in Goondiwindi where it appears the storm was at its most intense.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting severe thunderstorms today.
