FOR Kingaroy residents who want fast internet speeds, 4G mobile internet appears to be the way to go until the NBN launches in town.

According to internet speed crowd-sourcing site Streetspeed residents that use 4G mobile have recorded download speeds of 34.89mb/s in Kingaroy and upload speeds of 4.83mb/s.

South Burnett residents shared the data after South Burnett Regional Council teamed up with Streetspeed to get a snapshot of what the region's internet speeds were like.

For residents on an old DSL Telstra line, they are getting download speeds of between 1mb/s and 10mb/s.

Upload speeds range from 0.2mb/s and 0.9mb/s.

For those on the outskirts of Kingaroy that have access the NBN's fixed wireless service they receive download speeds of about 3.5mb/s and upload speeds of 3.5mb/s.

Speeds are similar in Nanango, with DSL speeds of about 1.62mb/s and 4G speeds of about 12mb/s.

The best recorded internet speeds were on a remote property in Taromeo, connected to the NBN fixed wireless service.

A download speed of 43.74bm/s was recorded and an upload speed of 10.05mb/s.

The worst recorded speed was in Wondai on MacKenzie street, with 0.39mb/s download speed and 0.14mb/s upload speed.

There was only one SkyMuster satellite entry, a Maidenwell property that recorded a 10.65mb/s download speed and a 0.78mb/s upload speed.

The Federal Government, through the ACCC, will also launch a new broadband performance monitoring program to provide Australian consumers with accurate and independent information about broadband speeds.

ACCC Chairman Rod Sims said the program would use hardware-based devices to perform remote testing of about 4,000 homes to determine typical speeds on fixed-line NBN services at various times.

"This information will assist consumers in comparing and shopping around, and checking that they receive what they are paying for,” Mr Sims said.
