Welcome change in weather at little athletics
LITTLE ATHLETICS: On Saturday afternoon, an enthusiastic group of young athletes and a loyal band of parents were relieved to attend a Little Athletics meet without blistering heat.
Committee member Dan O'Dea said it was a welcome change and the athletes responded with some excellent times and jumps.
"The wind was a little blustery at times, which made some of the high jump measurements even more impressive,” he said.
"Plus the athletes were running into a headwind during their sprints.”
The following athletes posted PBs this week:
- High Jump - U6-7 Ulani Park, Clara Salazar; U8-9 Isabella Jackson, Ethan Kent, Tate Park; U10-11 Lillian Kendall; U12+ Taryn McCosker.
- Triple Jump - U12+ Harry Wren and Taryn McCosker, who jumped from the 7m board for the first time.
- 70m Sprint - U6-7 Evie Burgess, Ulani Park, Ivy Banasiak, Isabella Jackson, Ella Wren, Lucas Ho, Jake Walker, Sasha Kendall, Margaret O'Dea, Ryan Haynes, Ethan Kent, Tate Park.
- 100m Sprint - U10-11 Jacob Kent.
- 200m Sprint - U8-9 Ivy Banasiak, Isabella Jackson, Lucas Ho, Aiden McCosker, Jake Walker, Sasha Kendall, Ryan Haynes, Tate Park; U10-11 Samual Park, Erin O'Dea, Jacob Kent.
"Congratulations to all the athletes who attended on Saturday - especially those who managed to post a PB,” O'Dea said.
"Another big thank-you to the parents who gave up their time to assist with time keeping, coaching, measuring and marshalling. Well done.”
There are only two more competitive meets left in the season.
The week after the club will be having some novelty, fun events and club presentations as a break up party.
"There are even some whispers of parent involvement - so maybe some of us should be warming up the calf muscles already,” O'Dea said.
