WEEKEND WEATHER UPDATE: Light rain and predicted thunderstorms
BEFORE we head into a week of predicted warm and dry weather, thunderstorms are expected around the Granite Belt region late this afternoon and tomorrow.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said there is a chance of thunderstorms in the Stanthorpe area today.
“There is a chance that these storms could be quite severe – we are looking at the possibility of damaging winds and large hail.
“It is most likely to hit during this afternoon heading into this evening.
“We will have that whole system moving eastern into tonight and tomorrow, but there will still be the chance of seeing a storm again tomorrow,” she said.
Light showers are expected for the area, with activity to pick up later this afternoon and into this evening.
“A light shower is expected to skim the area, but there is a chance that Stanthorpe should expect more activity in the afternoon as some of those storms develop.
“Keep an eye out for storm warnings as we can see some pretty decent gusts of wind coming off some of these storms.
“It should be clear tomorrow morning, but then we could see something again late morning, early afternoon,” she said.
