Games test Steketee's stamina
THERE'S 155km between WEP Harris Oval, in Brisbane, and Warwick, though the toss at the leafy oval of the University of Queensland may be one of the deciding factors on who wins this game on the other side of the range.
WEP Harris Oval is the home ground for the University of Queensland cricket team which takes on South Brisbane - a team for which Maryvale's lightning quick opening bowler Mark Steketee also plays.
"Mark will play a two-day game over two Saturdays in Brisbane - this weekend and next Saturday so we are hoping his captain wins the toss and bats this week so he is ready to let them fly for us on Sunday," Maryvale stalwart Mick Bourke said.
"Diggers have had the wood on us all year, having beaten us every time we have played them.
"We need to get out Jamie Saunders because he has scored big runs against us this year.
"I don't know too many batsmen in the comp that look forward to facing Steketee."
Diggers have been the surprise packet all year in what passionate clubman and Warwick Cricket president Col O'Brien described as a year for rebuilding after the loss of several top-line players.
Chris McEvoy has been fantastic with the ball all season and won't leave anything in the tank against Maryvale on a good, flat Slade Park wicket .
