Weekend clash in new cup season

THE 2011/12 Warwick Commonwealth Bank Cup cricket season resumes on Saturday with only four rounds left before the competition is split into A and reserve-grades.

Teams battling for the fourth spot in A-grade will be hoping for wins to restart the season.

Currently Allora holds down fourth spot but has Colts and Inglewood hot on its heals.

Inglewood will be boosted by the return of class all-rounder Lachlan Campbell, who will be available to play for the rest of January.

Diggers have welcomed back former captain and Mitchell Shield player Chris McEvoy for this weekend's clash with Allora at Slade Park.

In addition, other teams will be bolstered with players wanting a hit-out before the traditional Australia Day Cricket Carnival on January 21-22.

The most significant clash of the weekend will be on Sunday at Slade Park, when Colts take on equal competition leaders Wheatvale. Colts stars John Cleary and Matt Elford will strengthen a team that must win to have any hope of making A-grade. Wheatvale will be full of confidence after a huge seven-wicket victory against Diggers on their last outing.

Maryvale will be unbackable favourite when it takea on the Sovereign side and will look to take the table lead by securing bonus points. Inglewood has the bye for this round.
