Weather fails to stop Cup Day
NOTHING was going to spoil Warwick Cup Day for eager patrons this year, least of all a sprinkling of rain.
Hundreds of patrons turned out for the event, which is as much a fashion show as a horse race, adorned with fabulous fascinators, hats and dresses.
Hannah Gribbin, Rebecca Hitzke and Jessica Carey were three of the many fashionistas in the crowd, who refused to let the weather stop them from glamming it up.
Although numbers for the 150th Warwick Cup, which was anticipated to be one of the biggest in its history, were down due to the conditions, the racing proved to be as spectacular as ever.
Warwick Turf Club president Jim Costello said he was just happy they were allowed to race at all on Saturday.
“The weather has been disappointing. We were expecting over 2000 people but I don't think we met that,” Mr Costello said.
“The track, however, raced magnificently and is in great condition.
“We had some great close finishes with high quality horses on the track.”
Mr Costello thanked the committee members who he said worked hard for a number of weeks and put together a great event.
