Another water rates printing error

MANY Southern Downs residents were left scratching their heads when an extra name was incorrectly printed on recent water rate notices.

One resident said he searched the house for the mystery person but to no avail with about 3000 notices receiving a notice with the wrong name.

A Southern Downs Regional Council spokeswoman said a “printing glitch” was responsible for the error which resonated with the general rate debacle where residents were unable to pay their bill at Australia Post because of an incorrectly printed barcode.

“SDRC director of corporate services Andrew Ireland said the same company was used to print both lots of rate notices,” the spokeswoman said.

“Council is currently considering alternative print options.

“The printing glitch resulted in the additional name being included only on the remittance slip of about 3000 notices, however all other information on the water rates is considered accurate.”
