Waging war on proposal

A NEW group has emerged to fight the Warwick to Stanthorpe 110kV powerline potentially being constructed by Ergon Energy.

Concerned Warwick resident Tony Maw said a number of citizens concerned about the health risks and the denigration of the value of their property due to the construction of the powerlines had formed Absolute War Against Radiated Emissions (AWARE).

"AWARE would welcome any contact from possibly affected stakeholders along the existing Warwick to Stanthorpe 110kV powerline with a view to discussing and deciding available options and attempting to give support where necessary," he said.

"Don't battle alone, contact AWARE."

A council spokeswoman said there would be a public meeting about the powerlines on Thursday at 6.30pm at the School of Total Education auditorium.

She said councillors would have an information session with Ergon Energy this morning but it was closed to the public.

The 65km line will mainly follow the same easement as the current one except for about 8km.
