Wage bill for Queensland public servants over $21 billion
THE wage bill for Queensland's public sector employees increased during the last financial year despite thousands of job cuts, the Australian Bureau of Statistics says.
A report released on Tuesday said $21.43 billion was spent on Queensland public sector salaries during 2012-13, up from $21.31 billion the previous year.
Queensland had the third-highest wage bill for state employees in the country, behind New South Wales ($33.05 billion) and Victoria ($21.89 billion)
Australia's Commonwealth, state and local government employees received a total of $133.79 billion in wages for 2012-13, up almost 4 per cent on the previous year.
The ABS said there were about 289,700 employees on June 30, while the state government had the count at 228,597 - which equated to 192,003 full-time positions.
