VIDEO: Fire crews battle blaze at Illawong Beach
Update 9.00pm: FIRE crews put out the last of the blaze that threatened two properties at Illawong Beach on Sunday night.
Five crews battled the blaze which started about 6:30pm.
Mackay City Station Officer Darren Gracie said the fire was impinging right on the back of two properties, so their main priority was property protection.
Fortunately, the weather conditions were favourable.
"We've been able to hold the fire, lucky there was no wind and the cooler temperatures have slowed it down for us, it's all been contained and in the perimeter we've set up," he said.
"If the wind was a bit stronger, the fuel loads up to the houses here could have been a lot worse, we were a bit lucky, that's why we did get as many resources as we did on scene.
"At one stage, earlier on when the wind was up and the temperature was up a little bit, it was looking a bit worse than it is now."
