Victory's signing of Nathan Coe piles pressure on keepers

NATHAN Coe's signing by Melbourne Victory has put goalkeepers Lawrence Thomas and Tando Velaphi on notice.

Coe capped three times for the Socceroos, signed for three years and could play as early as Friday night against the Jets at Hunter Stadium, depending on an international clearance.

Victory coach Ange Postecoglou has copped some criticism for his decision to axe last season's No.1 keeper, Ante Covic, his ninth-placed team conceding eight goals from three games.

Covic has let just two goals past him at his new club, Western Sydney.

But the recruitment of 28-year-old Coe, signed from Danish club SønderjyskE, could arrest the trend at Melbourne.

"I had two years at my last club - I didn't re-sign and I felt like I needed a change," Coe said.

"When Ange and I spoke, he was a great fit for me."

Coe has also spent time at Inter Milan, PSV Eindhoven, FC Copenhagen and Randers FC.
