Victim 'remarkable person' for supporting stabbing offender
LACHLAN Black was deemed a "remarkable person" by the judge who sent his former partner to prison after she stabbed him in the heart.
Instead of seeking revenge, ending the relationship and wanting the woman who nearly killed him brought to justice, he wants her out of jail and a future as friends.
Lachlan spoke outside the Rockhampton Court House this week after his former partner, Erin Price, was jailed for stabbing him twice in the chest, penetrating his heart.
Lachlan was in the court room yesterday to show his support for Price, who he has been friends with for three years, and said he hoped the remaining four months of her prison term went quickly.
"I'm really happy with the outcome; she deserves to get out and get a second chance so I'm pleased it's turned out the way it has," he said about the verdict.
"It's only another four months, which is probably tough on her but it could have been worse so I'm very happy it's turned out the way it has.
"It was just a heat of the moment thing and I don't think she should be rotting in jail for a long time just because of that.
"She's a great person and people hear one side of it in court but not the other side of it. She's such an exceptional person. She's had her history and she's got her reasons for where she is in her life. She's given a lot to the community through her job and, as the judge noted, she's not someone with a criminal record."
Lachlan spent a week in Prince Charles Hospital after his left ventricle was severed by the blade.
But for Lachlan the scars that cover his chest and abdomen aren't a reminder of that dreadful night last year, more a memory he has moved on from and forgotten.
"I pretty much came to terms with what happened straight away," he said.
"It's just one of those things; it's happened, you've got to move on. When you're in hospital for six days you have a lot of time to think so that's done and dusted now. I still have a lot of affection for her and am hopeful we'll spend time together in the future."
