Veterans sign up for new season

KYLIE White and Amanda Pierce are a dangerous duo on the netball courts.

Having played together for nearly 26 years, and knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses better than most teammates, the pair can quickly change the direction of a netball game.

This year they are looking forward to playing another season alongside one another in their nominated team in the Warwick and district netball women's Bgrade competition.

"We've been playing since the early-90s when it was up in Barnes Park," Pierce said.

"I remember wearing the white polo shirts and red skirts and red hats."

Along with friend Nancy De Prada, they are looking forward to another season of fun and laughs.

"We don't really take it all that seriously - we make more fun of each other than anything," White said.

"We're pretty easygoing."

The three women say it's the love of the sport and friendships, as well as the fitness side to things and "being able to leave the kids and hubby for a while" that has them signing up year after year.

This year, the A and B-grade competition will remain competitive, while C-grade will be a draw for those who enjoy the social side more than anything else.

Warwick and District Netball Association secretary Linda Bunch said last year's women's fixtures were a popular event, with 22 teams signing on.

"We're currently calling for team and individual nominations," she said.

"Team nominations close on Friday and we can put individual players in a team when they contact us."

The women's competition starts January 30, with games on Monday and Tuesday evenings. The junior sign-on is February 18 for players aged five-14 years. Games will be played on Saturday afternoons.

For nomination forms or more information, email Linda at warwicknetball@ bigpond.com or phone 0407734380.
