Vandals attack Christmas tree in town CBD

VANDALS have tainted the festive season spirit on the Southern Downs by damaging a large Christmas tree in Stanthorpe's CBD.

Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said the tree in the Piazza in Maryland St was damaged about midnight on Saturday.

"The same offenders are believed responsible for a trail of nuisance offences up Wallangarra Rd including hoses strung across roadways and tyres rolled down the street," Snr Sgt Ireland said.

"Police will be endeavouring to view CCTV footage however request the assistance from anyone who witnessed the mindless act."
