Valleys extend lead in scorching conditions

CRICKET: In the weekends’ cricket fixtures, Valleys stayed top of the table with a comfortable win over Souths and RSL comprehensively dispatched Tenterfield at Shirley Park in Tenterfield.

On CF White Oval, Valleys won the toss and sent Souths in. Given the oppressive heat, Valleys would have been very happy with their bowling performance, bowling Souths out in 26 overs for a modest 93.

Cameron Crestani and Steve Martin opened the bowling and grabbed 3 each, to stifle Souths chances of posting a decent total.

In reply Alistair Middleton blazed a quick 28 to put the result beyond doubt. His opening partner, Curtis Allen continued his good form, posting 29. Valleys passed the total in the 17th over for the loss of just 3 wickets.

In Tenterfield, RSL batted first and had a field day posting an unbeatable 4-308 in their 40 overs. Jason Lawer bludgeoned 120, on a small field, in his first game of the season.

Given the circumstances, RSL may well take greater pleasure in Neil Perrit’s career high 63*. Tenterfield also bowled a staggering 57 extras.

In reply, Tenterfield were never any chance. If it wasn’t for Brad Parker’s better than a run-a-ball 77, the teams total of 137 would have been drastically lower.

Sam Dowie made sure he kept his name close to the top of the player of the year award, taking 3 wickets. Tom Garland also got 2 wickets.

Next weeks sees RSL take on Wanderers and Tenterfield play Valleys.
