CRICKET: Both University and Highfields Railways will look to post their first wins of the Harding-Madsen Shield as they face each other in round two this weekend.

University coach Chris Webster is looking for his top order batsman to bounce back from last weekend's loss to Metropolitan-Easts and start putting runs on the board early.

"We didn't have one batsman score more than 40 and it's always a struggle when your top order don't get the runs,” Webster said.

He would like to see big hitters like Tully Wilson, who made 40-odd runs last game, and James Bidgood, who made 20 not out, crack the 50 mark this weekend.

"If someone can do that in the one-day games, the majority of the time the team comes away with a win,” Webster said.

Met-Easts proved that theory last weekend with Brendon Jones scoring more then 100 early in the match, which Webster said set them up for the win.

Webster said this weekend was a must-win gain for University in order to gain momentum moving forward this season.

"They (Highfields) were quite good towards the end of last year,” Webster said.

"They will be looking to bounce back better than their score suggested last weekend.”

University's young guns impressed their coach last weekend, particularly Wilson who opened the batting for the team in his A-grade debut.

"Some young guys stood up and had some good games,” Webster said.

Nick Brown would lead the bowlers after taking five wickets last game.

"We are pretty keen to get back out on the field,” Webster said.
