Under-18s give boost to league competition
WITH the new under-18 grade set to grace next season's Border Rugby League timetable, the Gremlins are putting their recruitment feelers out now.
Stanthorpe Junior Rugby League president Mick Mahoney said this inclusion of the U18s was a positive move.
"It is extremely important for the future of the senior league," Mahoney said.
"We can keep progressing the players to under-16s but we need a pathway for them after that."
Former senior Gremlins players and newly appointed U18s coach Brad Crisp said he was looking forward to the challenge.
"This is new for me - I have never coached before," Crisp said.
"I have a few ideas up my sleeve, but will have to wait and see what happens."
Crisp hoped the inclusion of the U18s would close the gap between the juniors and seniors.
"We certainly need it, and it will be good to get a few young fellas through," he said.
"We need the young blood to keep the team going."
The last time Stanthorpe Gremlins had an U18 team was in 2007.
- The junior and senior Gremlins invite past and potential new U18 players and parents to an information meet-and-greet on Friday at 6.30pm at Sullivan Oval, with a barbecue to follow.
- RSVP to Mick Mahoney on 0428 886 839 or Norm Crisp on 0418 716 591 by tomorrow.
