Uber driver left cuffed to wheel after robbery

AN Uber driver was robbed at knifepoint and handcuffed to her steering wheel on the Gold Coast last night.

Detectives are investigating the armed robbery which occurred around 8.45pm in Runaway Bay.

A 39-year-old Carrara woman picked up a masked man on Marine Pde at Biggera Waters.

The male passenger was armed with a knife and demanded the woman drive him to Harbour Town. As they drove along Morala Drive, he ordered the woman to stop and give him money. She handed over a small amount of cash.

The male passenger then handcuffed her to the steering wheel so he could search for more money.

The woman was then released from the handcuffs and was told to continue driving before being ordered to pull over on Frank St where the male passenger fled the car.

A subsequent search of the area failed to find him.

The woman suffered minor bruising as a result of the handcuffs.

The man is described as caucasian in his early twenties with a fair complexion.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the areas mentioned around the time of the incident to contact Policelink on 131 444.
