Two die in Brisbane hospital after bacterial outbreak
TWO elderly patients have died at the Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane after a bacterial outbreak.
It is understood the two deaths have been linked to the streptococcus A bacteria.
Two other patients at the hospital are responding well to antibiotics after testing positive to the bacteria.
All four were patients at the hospital's rehabilitation unit where admissions have been suspended as all patients and staff undergo a series of tests.
A hospital spokeswoman said there was no concern about any risk to the main hospital building as the rehabilitation unit was a separate facility.
"Queensland Health has been notified and the hospital is maintaining constant contact with the Communicable Diseases Unit and the Chief Health Officer to ensure all protocols are being followed," she said.
Hospital authorities are contacting patients discharged from the unit since November 29 as a precaution.
