Two decade wait is over for junior Gremlins
THE Gremlins Under 17s League Tag are Warwick and District Premiers 2019.
The Gremlins club has celebrated 100 years of football in 2019, playing a grand final on home soil in front of a huge crowd, with two sides making the finals.
Twenty-two years since The Junior Gremlins last won a comp and it was the Under- 15 and 17s League Tag sides who set the scene for two of the best games of football we have watched all year.
Stanthorpe v Goondiwindi
THE two strongest teams in the competition went head-to-head.
It was Stanthorpe who started best and was making good ground through the middle of the field, some early pressure and within the first two minutes saw Brooke O'Brien score out wide to set up first points and take an early lead 4-nil.
Injury time took the remainder of the half and it was the Gremlins who went into the half leading 4-0.
All season these two teams have had tight games, they have fought out the Presidents Cup and this was building to be another great finish. With the Gremlins on the attack 10 out from their tryline in good field position, looking sharp, the unthinkable happened.
An intercept, Goondiwindi with speed to burn, ran the length of the field to score, levelling it up 4-4.
This would come down to who wanted it more, both sides defence were outstanding. Goondiwindi on the attack, two strong breaks were made, the Gremlins had to lift, hitting back with try-saving tackles that in the end changed the game. Gremlins, with 12 minutes to go, hit the front. A second try went to Brooke O'Brien, the crowd responded and the Gremlins dug in to hold off a Goondiwindi side that threw everything at them.

Under 15sStanthorpe v Tenterfield
THIS will go down as one of the best games of the year. Tenterfield went into the game undefeated, the Gremlins went in with the belief they had the team to match them.
What unfolded was a great game that ended up an epic battle that couldn't be split at the end of regular time. Extra time was called, a further 20 minutes needed to find a winner.
The game started with both teams evenly matched, feeling each other out, looking for the upper hand, Tenterfield was the first to score, a good try and conversion took the score out to a 6-0 lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half.
Stanthorpe were playing good football building pressure and starting to believe they were in the match, the crowd behind them Gremlins respond, a big try to Tara Mudge after a good backline movement Tara scores out wide.
Aleisha Karena stepped from the side line to nail the kick score are level 6-6 at the half time break.
The second half was intense, both sides going try for try, the lead fluctuating on each point scored.
Four minutes into the second half the Gremlins strike, Caydence Werner bursts through to score Gremlins hit the front for the first time 10-6.
With 12 minutes left on the clock Tenterfield regain the lead after a good try and a successful conversion 12-10.
Kiara Smith, Gremlins winger 60 meters out from the tryline on the end of a nice pass finds a gap, and takes off, the crowd lift and Kiara scores a long range try and put the Gremlins back in front 14-12 with seven minutes to go.
The game far from over both teams attacking with every set of six, Tenterfield scores, conversion successful and with less than two minutes to go lead 18-14.
Stanthorpe kick off, less than a minute to go, Isabel Kay regains a loose ball steps through the Tenterfield defence and scores - Unbelievable !
18-18 at the end of regular time.
Extra time was needed, the crowd and supporters were nervous the coaches and trainers nervous, the girls loved it. No golden point, just two by ten minute halves.
First try went to Tenterfield, it was on again, nothing between these two sides, Gremlins hit back score level 22-22. Tenterfield scored a couple of late tries to seal the game 30-22.
Unbelievable game of football,a credit to both sides.
