THE mother of all five missing children from regional Victoria herself "left town" before the father of one of the siblings is believed to have taken off with them.

Police have issued a warrant for Raymond Gooch from the town of Bairnsdale, and appealed for public assistance to help locate the three girls and two boys.

Gooch, also known as Raymond Quigley, 41, is the father of the youngest of the five missing children and stepfather to the others.

The children are Savannah Tomlins, 13, Indiana Bohning, 11, Charli-Beth Dargie, 9, D'Artagan Clark, 7, and Lynkon Quigley, 5.

All the children have the same mother, who police told news.com.au has left town for the Northern Territory.

Victoria Police have made contact with their NT counterparts for the missing woman, who comes from the town of Katherine.

The five children were last seen in the East Gippsland town of Orbost, 90km from Bairnsdale on July 24.

They are believed to be travelling with Mr Gooch, who may be driving a 1997 Holden Commodre with the registration number 1KC4OB.

Police say although the car is green, the colour is so dark that is "looks black".

Mr Gooch, who is wanted in relation to the breach of a court order, is 180cm tall with short brown hair and blue-grey eyes.

Police say investigators are "concerned for the children's welfare due to their age".

Police have released images of the children in the hope that someone recognises them and can provide information on their whereabouts.
