HOCKEY: Ella White is excitedly preparing for a busy few months that will have a distinct maroon tinge to them.

The 15-year-old Toowoomba girl has just been selected in the Queensland under-15 indoor hockey team which will compete at the national titles in January next year.

White's Queensland indoor hockey selection is all the more remarkable considering the Toowoomba teen only took up the sport seriously a year ago.

"I played my first game about two years ago in Gympie,” White said.

"My first proper season of indoor was here in Toowoomba a year ago and now I'm part of the Queensland side.

"I'm really excited to be part of the team. I know most of the girls and I can't wait to play.”

White, who has grown up playing outdoor hockey, said she loved the different challenges that indoor hockey presented.

"It's played on a smaller court and there are barriers around the outside which you can rebound the ball off to get around defenders,” she said.

White's indoor hockey duties will finish just in time for her next state duties. A week after the indoor titles White will join the under-18 outdoor squad to trial for a position in the team.
