Percussionist making his musical mark in Wales

TOOWOOMBA percussionist Jamie Nuss is taking the music world by storm.

The 25-year-old musician moved to Wales in the United Kingdom last year after he was offered a position with the world famous Cory Band.

The band's most recent win was at the Welsh Regional Championships in Swansea last week.

The competition is part of the regional championships where bands from nine areas throughout the United Kingdom perform a set test piece.

Ms Nuss said joining the band was an opportunity of a lifetime and he was thrilled with the win.

"It's always a great feeling to win any competition, but as this was my first with Cory it will always be extra special to me," Mr Nuss said.

"I feel so privileged to be working with such talented musicians who share the same passion and love of brass band music.

"I'm pretty sure I smile the whole time I'm on stage with the Cory Band," he said.

The band is recognised as one of the world's finest and most innovative ensembles.

Their numerous CD recordings and live concert performances have received worldwide acclaim.

Jamie's dad Mark Nuss said he could not describe how proud he was.

"While I miss him, I am so pleased that he is achieving his dream and doing what he has always wanted," Mr Nuss said.

"He has been so busy lately with the competition and recording new music, but I try to chat to him as often as I can.

"I am a very proud father and I am sure many Queenslanders are proud of him as well since he is the first Australian musician to have ever joined the Cory Band," he said.
