‘Tis the season: Beloved carols event set for return

IT'S the most wonderful time of the year.

Coloured lights and sparkling decorations, messages of good cheer, thoughts of Santa and the excitement of presents under the tree all add to the atmosphere of anticipation.

"And there's something else that defines the season as nothing else quite can - the music of Christmas," Stanthorpe Carols by Candlelight organiser Jenel Hunt said.

"Carols by Candlelight brings the music of the season to life in Stanthorpe at the bandshell at Weeroona Park on Friday, December 13.

"This annual community event, sponsored by the Southern Downs Regional Council, is open to all," Ms Hunt said.

The Lions Club of Stanthorpe starts off the event with a sausage sizzle that begins around 5.30pm so people can grab something to eat then pick a spot on the grass for the traditional carols event which formally begins at 6.30pm.

"This year the carols will be off to a fun start with the tiny tots from Rainbow Kids presenting a song, followed by carols led by the Stanthorpe RSL Concert Band under conductor Beck Barns.

"A highlight of the event will be a guest spot by Kathryn The Band and, as usual, the Granite Belt Choir will help out with the singing.

"Carol booklets will be available for a gold coin donation along with glowsticks donated by Price Busters, to add some light and colour as darkness falls."

Donations from the booklets and glowsticks will go to Granite Belt Support Services.

The jolly man in red has promised to make an appearance too. So mark your diary and head along on Friday, December 13, for a relaxed and Christmassy family evening.
