NOMINATIONS for the region's Australia Day Awards ceremonies have been extended until December 18.

Southern Downs Councillor Yve Stocks said the awards were a great way to show appreciation.

"The Australia Day Awards are a terrific opportunity to recognise the heroes who serve our community,” she said.

Categories include Citizen Award, Junior Citizen Award, Cultural Award, Junior Cultural Award, Sports Award, Junior Sports Award, Sports Administration Award and Community Event of the Year.

Junior awards are open to people under 18 years of age as at January 26, 2018.

"This is the perfect chance to honour people who go above and beyond,in their daily lives” Cr Stocks said. Even if they are not the eventual winner, the fact that they have been nominated is a great honour,” Cr Stacks said.

Nomination forms are available at www. sdrc.qld.gov.au on the SDRC homepage and completed forms can be submitted at Stanthorpe Council offices.
