Throat injury forces Rory Kostjasyn to retire
PREMIERSHIP winner Rory Kostjasyn has been forced into retirement by a throat injury.
The 30-year-old won a title with the Cowboys in 2015 before joining the Knights at the start of this season, but has not played for his new club.
The former Country Origin representative and Ireland international copped a stray elbow to the throat in a pre-season training mishap, causing him to suffer narrowed airways despite multiple surgeries.
"Retirement was a combination of medical advice and how my body was unable to adapt to a reduced airway," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
"It has by far been the most challenging six to seven months I've faced, not only in my career but in everyday life.
"Unfortunately, it's a challenge that I've been unable to overcome."
Kostjasyn began his career with Melbourne in 2010 and played 126 NRL games.
