Senior Colts

Despite being trampled the last time the two sides met, Stanthorpe United overcame Inter on penalties in a shock semi-finals result at the weekend.

United were handsomely beaten 7-2 by Inter's Senior Colts in round 3 - game 2 of the regular season but fast-forward to Sunday and a resilient young Rebacks side fought tooth and nail to get the result in the minor semi-final.

Inter looked on track when they took a 2-0 lead but United's youngsters refused to concede with Kobi Jones, Joey Kelly and Michael Coco leading by example.

Their never-say-die attitude eventually paid off when Coco hammered home from 25 yards to bring it back to 2-1.

Kelly then capitalised on a through ball down the right side which he swung in to find Jones who slotted home for the equaliser.

Extra-time couldn't separate the two, with penalties needed.

Confidence won out, with United sneaking through to tackle Ballandean this weekend after they were thumped 7-0 by City in the major semi-final.

City's progression never looked in doubt.

Undefeated all year, they took control from the outset with Lachie Gilbert, Rory McDonagh and Callum Lacey the goalscorers.

Football returns this weekend with C.F White playing host to the preliminary finals with kick-off from 10.30am.
