The new year's resolution that sounds much easier than it is
INSTEAD of vowing to do more, work harder or earn more a Southern Downs well-being expert is urging residents to make their 2019 resolution to do something that sounds more simple than it is: slow down.
Switching off from our phones, emails and workplace demands takes incredible patience and discipline, according to Warwick-based yoga and pilates instructor Jes Kerle.
"We need to do less. We are very much in a society where we are told we have to do so much to be better and we really do need to be patient with ourselves and reminding ourselves to slow down is the first step,” Miss Kerle said.
"We are already struggling with the amount of stuff that gets thrown at us each day.”
Practising yoga has helped Miss Kerle slow the pace in her own life and she said she can see changes in her students too.
"It helps with calming and it gives you a lot of tools for begin able to cope with daily stresses. They have done so many scientific studies where people's brainwaves change from a regular yoga practice,” she said.
Having recently moved to a new studio on Fitzroy St, Ms Kerle said she was looking forward to taking on new students when she reopens this Sunday .
