The can't miss cocktail party of the summer

THE inaugural Cocktails on the Green is just a few sleeps away and preparations are well on the way.

The event, which will replace the bi-annual Miss Showgirl Awards and Presentation Ball, will still include the on-stage interviews and presentation but will have some new features.

Showgirls competition co-ordinator Mariel Thompson said she was looking forward to putting on a really different and entertaining event from what she'd normally do.

"We've got yabbie races happening to get people involved in celebrating the event," she said.

"We've got the presentations where the showgirls are interviewed on stage with Lawrence Springborg as MC who we're thrilled to have back again."

There will also be live entertainment from Dave Barry.

"He puts on a great show of covers and does impersonations," Mrs Thompson said.

"He does Elvis, the BeeGees, he can impersonate their style.

"It's a bit of a show rather than just a singer; he does a bit of magic and has a few other tricks up his sleeve."

Of course no great cocktail party would be complete without great food and drink.

Frozen daiquiris and other pre-made cocktails will be served alongside all the bar standards.

Meanwhile canapes will be served throughout the night by local business Cafe 77.

"We're hoping what we've got will be able to quench the thirst for a nice hot evening," Mrs Thompson said.

Weather is no concern with the event being held under a marquee.

Mrs Thompson is hoping for a turnout of between 150-200 people at the event, with ticket sales going well.

"We're hoping to appeal to not just people in the show society, we're hoping to appeal to the general public to come along.

"Have a bit of an unwind before school goes back."

Mrs Thompson thanked all the sponsors for helping support this year's Showgirl Quest.
