Teen arrested after puppy tortured and thrown off balcony

A TEENAGE boy has been arrested and charged with torturing a puppy over an alleged act of animal cruelty at Casino this week.

Police allege at about 9.15am on Thursday July 18 the 17-year-old punched and choked a Labrador cross Great Dane puppy before throwing the dog off a balcony on Hotham St.

During the incident, police also allege the teenager hit the puppy with rocks.

The puppy was treated for fractures and internal bleeding and remains in veterinary care.

A person who recorded video footage of the alleged offences notified police from the Richmond Local Area Command who launched an investigation.

RSPCA officers and Rural Crime Investigators assisted police in their investigations.

Following inquiries into the alleged incident the 17-year-old was arrested and taken to Casino police station on Friday where he was charged with torture and beat and cause prolonged suffering to an animal.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Children's Court today, Saturday July 20.

Rural Crime Investigators are continuing their enquiries and haven't ruled out laying further charges.
