Tankers of water ensured Stanthorpe's pool season

NOTHING was going to stop the Stanthorpe Pool from reopening its gates today.

Despite concerns drought and water restrictions might threaten the pool season, doors will open at 8am.

"To get to this stage we've had tankers bring the water from Killarney,” pool operator Gail Smail said.

"There was approximately 54 tankers. They started last Wednesday and it took them about seven days to get them all here.

"Then Michael (Smail) has worked hard to get the water right. Council has worked hard too.

"This can be people's little oasis here to get away from all the drought. It's going to be a hot summer too apparently.”

Mr Smail said having the pool continue as usual was important for the town.

"I think it's really import- ant the community have it.”

The pool will be open seven days a week and early morning swimming resumes next week.

Monday is open 6am-6pm, Tuesday 6am-7pm, Wednesday 6am-6pm, Thursday 6am-7pm, Friday 6am-5.30pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 12noon-5pm.

Adult entry is $4.50 and children is $2.30. Season tickets are available.

"Squad training and learn to swim will be starting soon and we'll be back to school swimming for the last term. Aqua aerobics will be starting as soon as they can,” Mrs Smail said.

"If we didn't reopen there would have been lots of people affected.

"It's good that council took on board peoples health and mental health and ensured we opened.”
