Surfer dead after being struck by board off WA
A SURFER is dead after being hit by a surfboard in a shock accident at a West Australian beach.
Police attended Surfers Point Break in Prevelly on Wednesday morning following reports a surfer had been seriously injured.
The man was taken by ambulance to Margaret River Hospital after police and paramedics performed first aid on the 51-year-old New South Wales man.
WA Today is reporting the man is understood to have been hit by a baord.
A local surfer told WA Today he had heard the man's femoral artery, a major artery in the thigh, had been gashed.
"We don't know if it was another surfer or his surfboard that cut him," the surfer said.
"It was very, very tragic, mate."
