Sturt juniors pave way for carnival win
STURT House goes into the final morning today of the Warwick West State School athletics carnival with a 55-point lead in the battle for the championship.
On Wednesday morning, the Years P-3 carnival was held and Sturt finished with 311 points, Mitchell with 256 and Cordeaux 233.
Points from P-3 will be added to the Years 4-7 carnival today to determine the overall winner.
Deputy principal Phil Higgins said the Years P-3 pupils competed in sprints, relays, ball games and four field events.
“The field events were long jump, vortex javelin, shot put and frisbee discus,” Higgins said.
The P-3 carnival was contested by 315 pupils and another 295 will compete today.
The carnival is also a trial for the Southern Downs carnival at The Scots PGC College on August 10.
