Strong demand for local art

COLOURFULLY dyed material, handcrafted quilts and placemats, and intricate oil paintings hang on the walls at Just Because - but those wanting to purchase the locally made items had better be quick.

The coffee lounge at the local gift shop was packed last Wednesday when the art exhibition From the Past to the Present was opened.

Local artists Sue Johnson, Nicolette Dixon, Ann Hayward and Dorothy Devine have come together to showcase their talents in their individual styles.

Within three days, 80% of their pieces had been snapped up.

Mrs Devine thanked Just Because owner Sue Pulley for her "optimistic foresight in bringing together four emerging Warwick artists".

"Southern Downs artists are indeed lucky to be nurtured by a strong support network of individuals and organisations that provide creative opportunities for growth and development," she said.

"It is wonderful to have another ambient space for the display of community talent in Warwick, and a venue well worth visiting to enjoy the exhibit and to peruse as a potential space for your own artworks.

"It just goes to show how a social gathering and collection of underground talent can remind us all of the diversity within our own community.

"Warwick is blessed to be home to such a vibrant arts community, full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things."

The art exhibition will be on display for one month.
