Stanthorpe gets festive

DECEMBER has arrived, and Stanthorpe didn't hesitate to get into the festive spirit.

Southern Downs Regional Council has added a touch of Christmas to the town's main street, with the recent installation of a Christmas tree.

Mayor Tracy Dobie said the town was gearing up for its Christmas celebration on December 22.

"It's wonderful that people come out and enjoy the occasion but also spend their money locally,” Cr Dobie said.

Cr Rod Kelly said as a lover of Christmas, the installation of the tree was an exciting time.

"It's getting close and I'm looking forward to the carols they have up here in early December, as well,” Cr Kelly said.

Meanwhile, with Christmas lights appearing on homes around Stanthorpe, Ergon Energy has urged people to keep electrical safety in mind.

Chief operating officer Roslyn Baker said she didn't want to see the festive mood quashed by dangerous incidents.
