Stanthorpe Fitness centre's one year
Fitness Centre: It's been one year since the Stanthorpe YMCA changed into the Stanthorpe Fitness Centre and in that time the facility has seen many changes.
A Southern Downs Regional Council spokesman said the main work SDRC has done to the fitness centre is upgrading the building to ensure it complies with the National Construction Code.
"During Stage One of refurbishing the centre, SDRC spent approximately $150k to ensure the building complied with the NCC,” he said. "Council has also diversified the types of recreational activities on offer to help ensure the facility appeals to a wider range of residents, and the fitness centre currently averages over 150 people visiting the centre per week.”
However, the recent resignation of the gymnastics teacher has triggered consideration for how to utilise the gymnastics room and the significant amount of equipment. At the most recent council meeting it was decided to make this part of the facility available for hire. The office spaces adjacent to the gymnasium are also available for hire.
"Making the necessary upgrades to the building while ensuring the fitness centre continued offering new and existing services proved a challenge during the initial takeover period, but SDRC has received very positive responses from the community about the changes made.
"Council's goal for the future of the fitness centre is to continue to provide quality services at best value for money for the community. "SDRC will also continue exploring new ways to use the space in the facility to provide a wider range of activities and generate more revenue.”
