FUTSAL: Three local boys and a coach have flown the flag for Stanthorpe on a futsal representative stage.

Matthew Biddulph, Rory McDonagh and Jack McMeniman, along with coach Peter Biddulph, took part in the National School Futsal Championship in MtGravatt from September25-27, with all three players from StJoseph's.

The foursome donned the colours of the Queensland West side, with MrBiddulph team manager.

The team comprised of players from as vast a distance as Stanthorpe, Mackay and outlying Brisbane suburbs.

"All matches were played to a high standard, particularly those played against more highly fancied opposition, with the scores not always reflecting the standard of the match,” MrBiddulph said.

The Queensland West team finished equal fifth out of the 11 teams in the pool, just missing out on the finals.

"The result was very pleasing, with the team coming together quickly and working well on the court considering the limited team preparation,” MrBiddulph said.

"The players should be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves both on and off the court.”

The side managed to grab wins against Country Northern NSW, Queensland Country, Tasmania and a high-scoring 7-7 draw with Victoria.

"A big thank you must also go to our team support crew - the parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunties - who supported the team over the three days at the tournament and the end of tournament get-together at Southport before presentation night at Sea World,” Mr Biddulph said.

He said it was a positive experience staying at the Brisbane Holiday Village, where they had the chance to mingle with other teams.

"It was a great opportunity for players, coaches and managers to mix with players, coaches and managers from other states and teams who share in growing futsal.”
