Sporting tribute to our mayor

RETIRING Mayor Ron Bellingham and his wife Kath have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to Warwick district sports star awards in the past 12 years.

At Monday night's senior awards dinner at the Warwick RSL Memorial Club, Warwick Credit Union CEO Lewis von Stieglitz and Daily News general manager Bruce Partridge made the presentation.

Mr von Stieglitz said it was an outstanding effort for Mr and Mrs Bellingham to attend 23 of the 24 senior and junior sport dinners when mayor.

"They didn't have to go but have put the bar pretty high for the next mayor," he said.

"The dinners put him in contact with numerous sportspeople all in the one place."

Mr von Stieglitz said the mayor had also helped sport through council work on infrastructure.

Mr Partridge said the Daily News appreciated the long-time support from Mr and Mrs Bellingham for the sports awards and sport in the area.

Cr Bellingham said sport was one of the core pursuits in Warwick.

"I felt it was always appropriate to support the awards."
