THE beers were on Townsville-based military sapper Ryan Gray on Tuesday.

There is a bet among his peers (other military engineering personnel) that any one of them who appears in the paper must shout a box of beer.

Spr Gray was among 30 soldiers from the Army Reserve 31/42 Battalion, The Royal Queensland Regiment in Townsville, who have been brought in to bolster Rockhampton's relief taskforce.

On Tuesday, those soldiers were tasked to Crescent Lagoon State School in West Rockhampton to clear vegetation from the school's grounds.

Among those items were large trees.

The 351 students and 48 staff members from the school were expected to resumed Wednesday.
