Wizard to put spell on rivals
AUSTRALIAN No.1 Simon Whitlock is confident he can finish the job at the RNA Convention Centre in Brisbane on the second night of the International Pro Darts Showdown Series.
Whitlock's was the most impressive performance on the first night of the Courier Mail-run event, the first of four tournaments across the month, with the roadshow rolling on to Gold Coast next week, followed by Townsville and Mackay.
The world No.8 who is only playing the first two legs of the tour because of Professional Darts Corporation commitments in the UK, defeated Lucas Cameron 6-0 in a clinical and professional performance.
He takes on fellow Aussie Ray O'Donnell, who shocked South African star Devon Petersen on night one.
Win that and he could be in a semi-final with 16-time world champion Phil "The Power" Taylor.
But Whitlock says it doesn't matter who he takes on, as long as he concentrates on what he is doing.
"That was professional," Whitlock said after defeating Cameron.
"I enjoyed everything out there, the crowd were fantastic and it was a nice, solid performance.
"It doesn't matter (about who I play).
"You know what, I am going to get up there and play my game, I am going to play well and I am confident.
"Can't wait for it, I am excited now."
Aussie No.2 Kyle Anderson was not so happy about his first performance in Brisbane, however.
Anderson defeated up-and-coming New Zealander Tahuna Irwin 6-4.
He didn't have it his own way, with the Kiwi fighting back to level the score at 4-4, before Anderson regathered to win the next two legs.
"I wasn't happy, not tonight," Anderson said after the match.
"It's been a long break, I haven't thrown a darts since the worlds, I have come home and it's just been about spending time with my son.
"Tonight was the first throw at the board, it was a "test run" hopefully tomorrow night gets a bit better."
Anderson plays Andy "The Hammer" Hamilton on the second night of the News Corp-run tournament.
