Showgirl Quest opens career pathways
THE final call has been made for entries to the 2016/17 Showgirls Quest, with the entry cut-off quickly approaching.
Former showgirl and showgirl co-ordinator Mariel Thompson encouraged all girls interested to sign up.
Throughout her time as showgirl, Mrs Thompson said she learnt a number of skills that she had kept with her and continued to use in her life now.
"The confidence it gave me, to go up to people, it's given me confidence that's lasted right through to now,” she said.
Participating as a showgirl and also co-ordinator for the past 15 years has also opened a number of doors for Mrs Thompson.
This year, Mrs Thompson attended the Queensland Shows Conference to speak about her time as showgirl co-ordinator and the Stanthorpe Show, as well as travelling to Gympie to meet with their showgirls and run a workshops.
Mrs Thompson said these were great experiences she would never have been able to have if she had not been a part of the show society.
"It was a great example and to show the showgirls what long-term involvement can lead to and what you can do for your own show society,” she said.
Showgirl entrants will also work through workshops with leading ladies director Amelia Wilshire.
In workshops they will learn etiquette, public speaking skills to name a few. Nominations are due by close of business this Friday, before the first workshop on Saturday. To enter, call the show office on 4681 2107.
