SHOCKING footage has emerged of a close call at a notorious pedestrian crossing in Toowoomba.

A video posted to YouTube showed cars heading south on Hume St.

A car in the right lane stopped to allow a woman to cross a pedestrian crossing close to the Hooper Centre.

She casually crossed the road but then suddenly jumped back to avoid a blue car in the left lane which nearly ran her over.

The driver of the waiting car was alert to possible danger and warned the pedestrian by beeping the horn.

The warning may have saved the life of the pedestrian, who leaped back at the last second and avoided being struck by mere centimetres.
